Few towns offer as many ways to live on the water as Windham. Between Sebago Lake, Little Sebago Lake, Highland Lake and the Pleasant River, homeowners here can choose a big-lake view, a quiet cove or a river setting. What they tend to share is a wish to enjoy that water every month of the year, not just in summer.
Our Lake House project shows what that can look like. Kevin Browne Architecture brought us in to renovate a simple lakeside cottage on Little Sebago. Floor to ceiling windows bring the lake inside, the original post and beam framing keeps the cottage feel, and the modern exterior blends into the wooded surroundings. Two story ceilings in the kitchen and a half-wrap deck made it a home built for hosting.
Whether you are starting from an existing camp or a bare lakefront lot, the questions are similar. How will the home sit on the slope toward the water? Where should the windows face? How do you keep a light footprint on the land? We work through those with you and your architect before any proposal is written.
Not every Windham project is on the shoreline. Plenty of homes around North Windham and along Route 302 are ready for a kitchen remodel, a new layout or an addition, and those follow the same 6-step process as our lake builds.
